A farm can become a telecommuter business for some farmers by becoming a telecommunications cooperative, said Robert Knepper, president and CEO of the Rural Business Owners Association.
Knepper was speaking at a breakfast hosted by the American Farm Bureau Federation.
The Farm Bureau is sponsoring the breakfast.KNEPER: I think that’s one of the most important things for farmers and the small businesses is to start building a telecom network in rural areas.
KNEPER’S FAVORITE MENTOR: The farmer that’s the biggest in a market, I think, that is the most likely to use telecommuting to reduce the cost of operating.
KNEFFER: I want to see how this works, and it’s going to take some time, said Kneffer, who founded the association with his wife, Julie.
I’m talking about how you actually get into business.
KneFFER:And how you go about it?
KNEPPER: We’re trying to start by working with farmers, because that’s where the real opportunity lies, said Julie Knepperer.
Julie Knesper founded the Rural Commerce Association in 1998 and says that farmers are the future.
